    I travelled to war-torn Kyiv at the invitation of a Ukrainian think tank. Being in a country that is fighting a brutal and unjust war was an epiphany. I met hundreds of brave Ukrainians. Young political leaders in their 20s who have had their lives brutally and permanently changed. University students the same age and with the same dreams as those at the ºì¶¹ÊÓÆµ until the Russian invasion.

    Showcasing a diversity of impactful research – from bringing maths to life with innovative spatial processing techniques for school students, to addressing RSV, the impacts of long COVID, and heart disease – eight PhD students from the ºì¶¹ÊÓÆµ took the competition stage by storm.

    The team from the ºì¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Faculty of Science and Technology won for an open source software tool that combines power with accessibility, to transform the way genomic data is analysed across conservation, agriculture and health.
